This is why you need to eat more melons
You’ll start judging less, you’ll give more second chances, and you’ll find yourself more free and happy.
Melons are not always good for you, but I strongly believe we should try more melons in life. Because this is about metaphorical melons.
You see, when I was a kid I ate melons like 3-4 times and they were always bad.
They were firm and yet watery, almost tasteless actually, and they didn’t smell sweet.
Because of that, I grew up thinking all melons tasted lousy, and would avoid eating them.
Until I happened to have one a few months ago, and damn, that melon tasted really good. But my friends told me it was average at best.
That really threw me off. How did I live my life not knowing what a good melon really tastes like?
I thought more about it that night and couldn’t help but wonder what other food I had been mistakenly thinking was bad.
I realised then, kinda painfully, that melons probably weren’t the only things I had misjudged.
I did the same thing with countries, for example. I had several bad experiences in India and that made me blacklist the entire country and never want to visit again.
For real. It was so bad that even when I worked in a travel blog, I told them I wouldn’t go to India.
I did the same thing with people too, sometimes. Like if I felt that this person was gonna be difficult to click with because of certain traits, I wouldn’t even try to be friends with them.
Man, this melon incident made me realise that I was kinda being a douche.
So these days I try to push myself to try more ‘melons’ hahaha.
A trip to India is definitely in the works, and I wanna do it in a bigger group so it’s safer.
And I try to mingle with more people I felt I wouldn’t have a good time with. Though in some cases, I was right (and it wasn’t fun), I still found many other incredible people I enjoyed hanging out with and have no regrets.
When you shouldn’t be eating melons
And while I love this melon metaphor that encourages giving old things second chances and trying new things, I do think there are some melons that you have to avoid.
I mean, please stay safe. Don’t reacquaint with people who are bound to hurt you. And don’t think about travelling solo to countries which are known for dangerous crimes.
I think the key is to research and actually understand the situation you’re getting into, AKA recognising which melons are gonna give you a stomachache.
And it’s okay if you’ve eaten a couple of rotten melons. I sure have had my fair share and I know I’ll have more in the future too.
As long as we’re all in the fruitful journey of life, where we get to try new melons and learn from our mistakes, that’s what counts, right? 🙂
That was just my take, and I’d love to know yours. Leave a comment with what you think about melons, this post, or whatever!
